Dementia Friendly East Lothian

Dementia Friendly East Lothian CIC (DFEL) exists to transform the lives of people living with dementia, their families and friends.  We make dementia about everyone, every day.  Our Living Not ExistingProgramme works directly with people with dementia and carers helping them stay connected and involved in daily life in their communities, with things to do, places to go and people to see.  We want people to live and not just exist.  Made Here By Us helps communities be more supportive and inclusive of people affected by dementia, giving people with dementia a real voice and say about the things that matter to them. Our work is underpinned by the lived experience of people with dementia and carers and by research, theory and best practice in dementia and community psychology.

We work closely with the Memory Team to deliver courses in the community and run Friendship Groups across East Lothian so people can stay in touch. We support a range of  inter-generational and community projects and hold regular training events and gatherings. We also develop innovative projects, currently: Designs for Life – using design thinking to help manage and adapt to life with dementia; Digital Dining  using technology to help people stay in touch with friends and ReVitalise Yoga – making Yoga available and accessible to everyone.
